La Bodega Gallery is pleased to announce Cards for Puerto Rico
Organized/Curated by Glorimar Garcia
The exhibition is on display January 19th and 20th. The opening reception will be held on the evening of the 19th (Friday) at 7pm.
In order to gather funds for relief for Puerto Rico, Glorimar Garcia called on artists to create small original works of art on salvaged baseball cards. In 2013, she saved a collection of water damaged sports cards from being thrown away and began using them in a series of paintings and sculptures. She eventually realized the identity, culture, and gender implications inherent in the process of salvaging and manipulating the cards. Ultimately, the series has become the group of work most closely tied to her Puerto Rican heritage. La Bodega Gallery is honored to support her, her community of artists and this endeavor to help relief efforts in Puerto Rico.
All proceeds will go to The Maria Fund (mariafund.org) which was formed on September 20, the day that Hurricane Maria hit land in Puerto Rico.
